Work Relations
Fear and Confidence
Mission 1

In this area—one of the most complicated—it is important to review all the resources you have available. It is also essential to connect with the emotions related to the fear you feel when you are at school, university, or work. We also suggest that you open yourself up to studying how others feel. Use your personal and social scanner!
You have left the safe zone and continue walking. As you move forward, you encounter crossroads and paths that fork.
In some cases, the decisions to be made are easy, but others are complicated. Often, you don’t know which path to follow.
There is always something attractive to give up or something bad that you know that gives you security.
What are you afraid of?
(Write it down in your notebook.)
IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that fear always provides a tremendous boost of energy, which will make it easier for you to flee or fight against what you perceive as dangerous.
TRUTHS ABOUT FEAR
- Fear will be with me as long as I keep growing
I hope the fear goes away before I take any risks, but it doesn’t work that way. As I practice and strengthen self-confidence, my relationship with fear will change in surprising ways.
- The way to free yourself from the fear of doing something is… Do
“Do it” comes before my fears disappear. When I face situations, I gradually become familiar with them and self-confidence grows again. The feeling of accomplishment after doing what scares me strengthens my self-esteem.
- The way to feel better is… Do
When I put the means for something to happen, the fear dissipates and I have more faith in myself. When I do something and free myself from fear, I encourage myself to continue doing something else. But… Fear rears its head again in the face of the new challenge!
- I’m not the only person who feels fear when the path is uncertain, it happens to all human beings
Sometimes we think that we are l@s únic@s that we are afraid. Tod@s fear something, but when we practice and do, we have more confidence. The lack of success in facing my fears is because I interpret them as a signal to stop or go back, instead of continuing to move forward.
- Overcoming fear is less frightening than living with the fear produced by a feeling of helplessness
The more powerless we feel, the stronger the fear of situations that we do not control (for example, failures, loss of work…). When I decide to accept the risks, I realize that I am not as afraid as if I spend my time thinking about what if…?
There is a very deep level in me where I know I have nothing to fear. It’s the surface level that needs to be convinced.
GET TOGETHER WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION AND SHARE YOUR FEARS RELATED TO STUDIES OR WORK.
YOU CAN ALSO DISCUSS HOW EACH OF YOU HAS DEALT WITH THE SITUATIONS YOU HAVE FACED.
USING THE INFORMATION GATHERED FROM THE MEETING AND YOUR OWN IDEAS, DESIGN A SHORT ROLE-PLAYING GAME IN WHICH THERE ARE THREE OR FOUR PEOPLE IN A MEETING. YOU ARE ONE OF THEM AND YOU HAVE TO DEFEND A PROJECT IN FRONT OF THE OTHERS (ONE OF THEM IS YOUR BOSS).
FIND SOME FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH. YOU CAN ALSO DO THIS WITH THE PEOPLE FROM THE ASSOCIATION YOU MET WITH.
