Duties of the promoter of change

As we mentioned, being a Promoter of Change means being a positive role model for other young people with Tourette Syndrome. You have the opportunity to use your personal experience to inspire, support, and empower other young people.

By taking on the role of Change Promoter, you become a person who drives change through empathy and commitment to a more inclusive European society.

Main duties of the change promoter

  • Inspire through your story. You can share your experience, both the good and the difficult. Your testimony can give strength to other young people.
  • Accompany other young people. You can listen to other young people’s stories to make them feel valued and support them on their journey to becoming promoters of change.
  • Promote inclusion and break down prejudices. You can use your voice to raise awareness about Tourette Syndrome and combat the prejudices held by others, promoting respect and inclusion.
  • Be actively involved. You can collaborate with social organizations, organizations specializing in Tourette Syndrome, volunteer at camps, share your ideas, and more.
  • Take care of yourself so you can support other young people. Being an advocate for change also means knowing when to take a break, ask for support, or set boundaries. Self-care is also important.

European values promoted by the Promoter of change

  • Human dignity. What does it refer to? Each person has a unique value that must be respected at all times. That is, respect for the dignity of every individual.
  • FREEDOM. What does it refer to? Respect for privacy, freedom of thought, religion, assembly, expression, and information. It also means being able to live without fear of being judged or rejected for who you are.
  • DEMOCRACY. What does this refer to? The EU is based on representative democracy. Therefore, all adult citizens of the European Union have the right to vote and to stand as candidates in elections to the European Parliament.
  • Equality. What does this mean? It means having equal opportunities and rights, regardless of gender, religion, origin, disability… Europe promotes equal opportunities for everyone.
  • Rule of law. What does it refer to? This value guarantees that we must all obey the laws, but also that those laws must protect us fairly. No one is above the law, and you have the right to be treated fairly at school, at work, and in society.
  • Human rights. What does this refer to? You have the right to live without discrimination, to receive an education, to have access to healthcare, and to participate in social and cultural life. You also have the right to privacy, to be yourself, and to have your needs respected. These rights are universal and also protect minorities and people facing specific challenges.

Why are these values so important?

Because they help build a society where everyone, without exception, can live with dignity and opportunity. These values:

  • They promote inclusion and tolerance
  • They promote justice and solidarity
  • They protect our fundamental rights
  • They promote peace and cooperation
  • Building a better future means working together to make Europe a fairer, more humane, and more open space for diversity. Young people with Tourette syndrome are not only part of that future: they lead it, transform it, and enrich it with their experience and strength.
